Advocacy groups launch IPAB watch

AZBIO Washington Watch

uscapSeveral minority organizations and disease advocacy groups are starting a website to track concerns about and opposition to the Independent Payment Advisory Board.

The IPAB Action Center was established by the National Minority Quality Forum as well as 17 other groups, including the AIDS Institute, Vietnam Veterans of America and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

The move comes ahead of two House hearings on the IPAB this week and as opposition to the program grows, even among supporters of the health law.

“The IPAB Action Center facilitates transparency about the IPAB process, and
articulates our concerns about the impact IPAB will have on Medicare, on the
voters who depend upon it for high-quality care and on the American health care
research, delivery and financing system as a whole,” the groups write in a letter to members of Congress announcing the program. “The organizations listed below have different perspectives and represent diverse constituencies, but we stand united in our disquiet about the direct and indirect impact that IPAB will have on the availability of and accessibility to quality care.”
