Partnership with Siemens Healthineers will expand availability of EndoVantage SurgicalPreview® pretreatment planning technology
Scottdale, AZ, Nov. 26, 2018. EndoVantage, LLC, a pioneer in cloud-based medical simulation technology, and Siemens Healthineers, a leading medical technology company, announced today that they are joining forces to bring EndoVantage SurgicalPreview® pretreatment planning technology to hospitals. This groundbreaking technology allows surgeons to model and test endovascular devices in a patient’s anatomy virtually before surgery, enabling a “surgery dress rehearsal.” The partnership, announced at the 2018 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting, will make EndoVantage SurgicalPreview® available to clinicians through the Siemens Healthineers Digital Marketplace.
As endovascular treatments replace traditional open surgery, a new challenge arose: the selection of the device, size and placement technique from the multitude of options available. SurgicalPreview® answers this through pretreatment planning. It creates a virtual 3-dimensional model of the diseased vessel from the patient’s medical scans. It then provides the surgeon with sophisticated measurement and visualization tools to assess the disease and plan the treatment strategy, along with simulations to view the results. A study at Mayo Clinic found that skilled surgeons changed their treatment approach in 59% of cases after using SurgicalPreview®.
“Master surgeons are able to visualize the operation in three dimensions. SurgicalPreview® gives every surgeon at every level unparalleled ability to accurately plan and simulate the surgery ahead of time. This is a remarkable technological advancement which could become the standard of care in presurgical planning. Why wouldn’t a surgeon want to see what the result of the surgery is ahead of time?” said Bernard Bendok, MD, Charles and William Mayo Professor and Chair of Neurological Surgery, Mayo Clinic Arizona.
“The goal of Siemens Healthineers Digital Ecosystem is to help customers use data to deliver value-based care with better outcomes at lower cost. As the digital ecosystem keeps growing, it will allow healthcare providers worldwide to harness the power of digital healthcare. By integrating SurgicalPreview® into the secured environment of teamplay cloud platform endovascular pretreatment planning will be directly incorporated into the hospital workflow. We are very excited to welcome EndoVantage and enhance our set of solutions in the area of image-based Neurology and Neurosurgery,” said Christoffer Seubert, Head of Partner Management Digital Ecosystem at Siemens Healthineers.
The Siemens Healthineers Digital Ecosystem* provides an open and secured environment for digitalizing healthcare. It effectively integrates and interconnects data and knowledge from a global and diverse network of healthcare stakeholders. Digital offerings developed by Siemens Healthineers and its partners will help to increase decision making capabilities based on data-driven insights. A dedicated marketplace for digital offerings from Siemens Healthineers and its partners will allow users to quickly assess the different offerings and the use cases they serve. It supports healthcare institutions to efficiently purchase and deploy digital health offerings within their setting.
*The Siemens Healthineers Digital Ecosystem is available for piloting partners in the U.S. and EU only. If the services are not marketed in countries due to regulatory or other reasons, this service offering cannot be guaranteed.
About EndoVantage
EndoVantage is building a virtual patient treatment-planning center in which medical procedures are planned before treatment and medical devices are robustly tested before patient exposure, dramatically improving patient care and reducing cost. Its initial efforts are in the endovascular market with SurgicalPreview®, an FDA cleared computer system that simulates the endovascular implantation and effect of medical devices in patients. Clinicians are now using SurgicalPreview® to design the treatment strategy for patients before surgery.
In addition to pretreatment planning, EndoVantage uses the platform to provide simulation services to medical device companies during product development. EndoVantage simulates device performance in patient anatomies without the patients, dramatically improving the development process while shortening time to market. Its work has been used to reduce the number of patients required in a device clinical trial, representing a significant savings in regulatory approval time and cost.
