Job Description:

The Critical Path Institute, a non-profit organization headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, invites applications from Master’s level (PhD preferred) scientists with expertise in genetic data analysis and processing to work collaboratively as a guest researcher with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination, Laboratory Branch in Atlanta.

The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing DNA sequence and phenotypic drug susceptibility test results being contributed from international collaborators to the Rapid Diagnostic Susceptibility Testing (RDST) Data Sharing Platform. The incumbent will perform required data checks and validation to ensure quality of incoming data. S/he will process  and assemble DNA sequence data files using a unified analysis pipeline, review data submissions for acceptable quality based on pre-determined criteria, generate variant reports, and analyze, using other summaries of TB data from the RDST Data Sharing Platform, consistency and acceptability of the data for populating the database. Expertise in microbiology and specific work with Mycobacterium tuberculosis is preferred. The incumbent will collaborate with external partners at the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics and the New Diagnostics Working Group in support of the RDST Data Sharing Platform. Additionally, the individual will be expected to contribute expertise for bioinformatics training and review the resultant work.

This is a 3-year, term-limited position.

Strong mentoring in microbial analysis and microbiological techniques, and access to select opportunities for training and professional development will be provided, as applicable.

The incumbent will be an employee of the Critical Path Institute and therefore eligible for associated generous employee benefits. The incumbent will be required to travel approximately twice annually to Tucson, Arizona.

A background security investigation will be required. Appointment as a Guest Researcher at CDC will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.  If hired, a background security reinvestigation or supplemental investigation may be required at a later time.

TO APPLY for this position, please send a single pdf file that includes a resume/cv and cover letter (including available start date) highlighting how your qualifications match the needs of the position. Indicate the position title for which you are applying in the subject line of your email.  Applications should be submitted to HR@c-path.org . Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2015 and continue until the position is filled.

The Critical Path Institute is an equal opportunity employer.
